Hong Kong Disneyland to develop schools program
The Disney Youth Program has turned Hong Kong Disneyland Resort into a classroom for its newly launched environmental exploration program.
Students joining the program will explore nature and play interactive games in the theme park as they learn about environmental issues and sustainability.
The program's content was developed through consultation with Hong Kong-based environmental education group Green Power.
Participating students will immerse themselves in the theme park's different themed lands, learn about its green policy and gain hands-on knowledge of the environment.
The programs are designed to inspire students through life-wide learning with an exciting out-of- classroom experience.
Terrance Wang, Vice President, Sales and Distribution Marketing of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort explains “students will familiarise themselves with the value of biological diversity and conservation by studying trees through their sense of touch, smell and sight, and learning about common birds and butterflies in the park.”
Discussions and interactive games have been incorporated in the program to inspire students to be socially responsible toward the environment.
The program is offered to primary and secondary school students.
The secondary school program incorporates a more detailed discussion on sustainable development, including ecosystem conservation, greenhouse gas emissions, waste recycling and water and energy conservation, while the primary school version will help explain urbanisation and problems arising from human activity.
Students will take home Disney Learning Passports, which includes a program overview on the park's ecological environment and eco-friendly policies.
