Hong Kong Disneyland presents in-park live orchestral performance
With its Castle of Magical Dreams as the backdrop, Hong Kong Disneyland has staged a series of live orchestral performances.
The inaugural performances on 3rd and 4th December saw the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra present A Magical Nighttime Symphony, with much loved Disney characters and local artists including Cantopop singer Kay Tse also taking the stage.
Under Conductor Chiu Tsang Hei’s lead, Music Director Ceejay Javier joined in the fun as a guest pianist for the live musical performance with popular Disney and Christmas songs.
Javier advised “I always approach every opportunity to perform as a way to create magic, especially since I spend most of my time now either composing or producing music for the Park
“Opportunities like playing piano for Kay Tse singing ‘Beauty and the Beast’ at the Disney+ Launch Special or playing Disney and Holiday tunes with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra at the castle stage have provided me with some truly unforgettable musical memories that I will treasure forever.”
Commenting on the success of the performance, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Managing Director, Michael Moriarty added “we are very excited working with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the flagship orchestra of our city. It brings all the magical elements together here in Hong Kong Disneyland: the spectacular night view of the castle, high-quality orchestral live performances and beloved Disney songs and stories.”
While currently shut down from 7th to 20th January as part of the Hong Kong’s Government tightened COVID-19 health and safety restrictions, the popularity of the orchestral performances means they will return in April.
The 2022 Disney in Concert: A Magical Celebration event will feature the Hong Kong Symphonic Winds (HKSW) Symphony Orchestra, with conductor Fung Ka Hing.
The performances are scheduled for 30th April and 1st May 2022.
