Ed Sheeran performs first large-scale outdoor concert at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort's open air venue has been configured into a concert space for multiple Grammy Award winner Ed Sheeran to perform his first large-scale outdoor concert series at the Fantasy Road Outdoor Venue both last night (17th April) and tonight (18th April).

Last night's show attracted a full house of 20,000 people - with similar numbers expected tonight - with fans from Hong Kong, mainland China and overseas enthralled by the powerhouse performance in the relaxed outdoor environment.

Speaking at after last night's show, Sheeran said he was excited that it was the first time he had ever performed at a Disney resort. He noted he had to cancel a show in Hong Kong due to an arm injury back in 2017, so this time he was happy to bring two nights of performance back to the city.

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) Managing Director, Stephanie Young, said as an Ed Sheeran fan, she was extremely delighted to see this top musician’s performance at the Resort, commenting “as an international theme park and resort, HKDL continues to provide diversified one-stop resort entertainment experiences to our guests.

“We are so glad that Ed Sheeran has selected HKDL as the venue for his Hong Kong concert, and believe that we are well-positioned to bring more top-notch concert and resort experiences to music lovers from all over the region.”

Young noted that the Fantasy Road Outdoor Venue is an unrivalled space for a magical outdoor concert experience. Concert-goers of all ages can also enjoy a full one-stop hotel-park-concert holiday. The availability of this Hong Kong Disneyland Resor venue could attract more international and regional event organisers and artists to stage large-scale, outdoor concerts in Hong Kong, contributing to the development of concert tourism in the city. This will in turn reinforce the city’s positioning as the 'event capital of Asia' and provides a new engine of growth for the tourism industry.

Several Ed Sheeran fans from Macau travelled to Hong Kong Disneyland Resort via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to have an extended entertainment experience at the Resort, starting with some Disney magic in the park before going on to enjoy the concert.

Another couple even postponed their honeymoon to see their favorite singer live in concert. Educated overseas, newly-wed Prisca always hoped she could one day go to outdoor concerts in Hong Kong, stating “it feels so free enjoying an outdoor concert under the stars. It is common for popular singers overseas to hold outdoor concerts. The atmosphere is simply electrifying.”

Moreover, to promote the concept of green mega event, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort partnered with the concert organiser and NGO Green Earth to launch a series of environmental initiatives. Water stations were set up at the concert venue and the resort offered recyclable cups for concert-goers to use during the shows. Recycling bins were also provided at the venue.
