Hills Shire Council to enter into licence agreement with Parramatta Eels for redevelopment of Kellyville Park  

The Hills Shire Council has announced its intention to enter into a licence agreement that sees Council continuing its partnership with the Parramatta National Rugby League (PNRL) for the redevelopment and use of Kellyville Park as a Premier Rugby League Facility and for the benefit of the community.

As part of the licence agreement, which will soon be on public exhibition for a period of 28 days, the sporting facility will also provide pathways that will support community members who are passionate about rugby league and aspire to reach a representative and/or elite level in their chosen sport.

The Hills Shire Mayor, Dr Michelle Byrne said this was a positive step forward in driving grass roots sport, in particular rugby league, in the Hills Shire and noted “PNRL are the governing body for rugby league in our Shire and they wish to work with Council to provide facilities and opportunities for residents.

“Council is committed to supporting local sporting initiatives that will benefit our region, and this licence agreement between Council and the PNRL is a fantastic example of this commitment.  

“By working collaboratively with the PNRL, Council will be able to maximise opportunities to support our local sporting clubs, while providing high level rugby league training and playing facilities in our Shire.

“Council looks forward to working with the PNRL on this very exciting project, which will bring leadership, investment and elite rugby league to our region.”

PNRL Chief Executive, Jim Sarantinos added “The Parramatta Eels would like to thank The Hills Shire Council for the work and contribution to what we believe will be the best Rugby League facility in Australia.

“The project is testament to the great relationship our Club has with the Council and we look forward to seeing the precinct come to life for the local community over the coming years.”

Council has already developed and constructed three rugby league playing fields, a new carpark and access road from Stone Mason Drive, in Kellyville, as part of the adopted masterplan. 

The masterplan also identified Kellyville Park as the most suitable site for the establishment of a Premier Rugby League Facility in the Hills Shire.  

To add to this, Council awarded a $1.4 million construction tender to extend the playing fields at the Kellyville sporting facility to allow more opportunity for play.  

The works will see two new double playing fields created.
