Heartmoves program launched in Burnie
A new affordable fitness program has been launched by Burnie City Council in Tasmania.
Aiming to help increase the Burnie community's participation in healthy eating practices and lifestyles, the Heart Foundation's Heartmoves program is being delivered as part of the Federal Government's Healthy Communities Initiative.
Heartmoves is a gentle physical activity program suitable for anyone who hasn't done any exercise in a while. The program is run by accredited exercise professionals specifically trained in managing safe, low to moderate intensity physical activity programs.
Introducing the program, Burnie Deputy Mayor Sandra French stated "this affordable program is open to everyone and is designed to be safe for people with stable long term health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and bone or joint problems.
"The whole idea behind the program is that you can exercise at your own pace in a friendly atmosphere, with a trained professional to guide and support you. This can be particularly important if you haven't exercised in a while, are recovering from surgery or have other health concerns."
