Greater Shepparton to host panel discussion on sport, inclusion and disaster recovery
Greater Shepparton City Council has invited the local community to attend ‘Beyond the Game’, a powerful panel discussion about sport, inclusion, and disaster recovery.
This free event will take place on Sunday 15th December 2024, from 11am to 2pm at the Main Pavilion Function Room, Sports City, Shepparton.
Featuring an esteemed line-up of speakers, Beyond the Game will delve into critical themes surrounding resilience, inclusiveness, and the transformative role of sport in challenging times. The panel includes:
Tayla Harris, Professional AFLW Player
Col Pearse, Paralympics Silver Medallist Swimmer
Vanessa Low, Paralympics Gold Medallist Long-Jumper
David Younger, Disaster Recovery Expert
The event will be hosted by Tones, a proud Shepparton young person and entrepreneur.
Through engaging discussions, the panellists will explore topics such as breaking barriers in sport, the role of community in shaping athletes, preparedness and planning, and fostering inclusion. David Younger will provide a unique perspective, connecting these themes to the broader context of disaster recovery and community resilience.
Council Director Community, Louise Mitchell, highlighted the importance of sport in helping to bring the community together to overcome adversity noting “Sport is more than just competition; it is a platform for connection and growth, especially during times of adversity. This event will highlight the profound ways sport and the community can come together to overcome challenges.
“This is a great chance to hear from inspiring athletes and experts about the transformative power of sport in building resilience and fostering recovery.”
