Gold Coast secures line up of sporting conferences
As the city prepares to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Gold Coast has seen a rise in sport related conferences with more than 11,700 delegates expected to attend 29 sport related conferences and meetings over the next 14 months.
Gold Coast Business Events Director Anna Case said the city is experiencing renewed interest from sporting organisations as flow-on opportunities are created for business, trade, investment and tourism.
Case explained “the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is the largest event that Australia will see this decade and the opportunities for business events to tap into the spin-off benefits the event generates is very exciting.
“We’re seeing an incredible injection of new infrastructure which will bring a lasting legacy to the business events industry with new event space, upgraded venues and unique, money-can’t-buy experiences for groups.”
The news follows recent results from the Queensland Business Events Survey that reveals the number of meetings and conferences held on the Gold Coast increased by 21% in 12 months ending June 2016.
Case added “we attribute the increasing popularity to the availability on the Gold Coast of world-class venues, our delegate experiences and our distinct beaches to rainforest appeal.”
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will run from 4th to 15th April 2018.
