Global Sports Week to be staged in physical and digital formats in 2021
The organisers of Global Sports Week have announced that its 2021 edition will mix “physical and digital experiences” when it is held from 1st to 5th February next year.
The international forum, held under the patronage of Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, brings leaders, influencers and changemakers come together to shape and share a new future for sport between business and society.
From a central base in the French capital of Paris, a groundbreaking virtual platform will connect the event in future Olympic host cities - Tokyo, Beijing, Milan and Los Angeles along with the city of Dakar in Senegal.
With Paris set to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and France 2023 Rugby World Cup, organisers explain that the with “the city at the heart of world sport in the next decade, Global Sports Week has been designed for a new era”.
Its context is one of “global revolution, around the world, the speed of digitisation is matched only by the pace of societal change. A new generation, with new expectations, is emerging to present a real challenge to sport and its whole economic model. Disruption is creating opportunity too - for sport to play a bigger role in addressing the big social challenges of our age.
“In 2020, the global coronavirus crisis has demonstrated sport's fundamental value, while accelerating underlying trends. The shock has also unlocked imaginations, creating a unique environment for bold ideas and radical innovation.
“If 2020 was a time to think big, 2021 will be the year to put reinvention in action (with) success depending on new kinds of partnerships, and on multilateral solutions.”
Global Sports Week 2021 will take place primarily online with speakers linked live to international hub venues from a central studio setting.
