Funfields ready to unveil record-breaking water attraction

Preparing for its season opening on 29th September, Victorian theme park Funfields is set to launch its latest record-breaking water attraction - the 186-metre long and 28.6-metre tall Gravity Wave.

Another example of the ongoing investment in the attraction by Funfields’ owners, the galactically-themed wave wall sets the record for tallest and biggest waterslide in Victoria, and holds the world record for biggest installation of its kind by ride design company ProSlide®.

Commenting on the new ride, Phil Hayles, ProSlide Vice President of Business Development, explains “this attraction, a ProSlide® TornadoWAVE™ 60, is a four-person family tubing experience.

“Riders virtually defy gravity as they sweep up and across the wall, experiencing near weightlessness and zero-G forces.”

The ride also unleashes 200 litres of water per second and riders reach speeds of 24 feet per second.

Gravity Wave is Funfields’ third major collaboration with ProSlide.

In 2013 the Canadian company developed Typhoon, a 137-metre long enclosed tube ride (and the world’s longest ProSlide CannonBOWL™ 40). Two years later came the park’s KrakenRACER, the first of its kind in Australia, on which riders hurtle head-first on mats down braided lanes at 60 kilometres per hour.

Hayles adds “we’ve been fortunate to partner on some real world-class attractions for an amazing theme park.”

The three world record rides - more than at any other park in the country - helps Funfields stand apart in their market. Located just north of Melbourne and operating for more than 30 years, Funfields competes with dozens of indoor and outdoor parks around the region.

However, since partnering with ProSlide, Funfields has seen its annual attendance increase by 100%. Recently, the park was named to the Ultimate Victoria Bucket List of 100 must-see places.

ProSlide is known for its continuous innovation of the water ride industry over its 31-year history. Their TornadoWAVE™ 60 - the same design as Gravity Wave - was awarded the coveted Best New Water Park Ride from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). Last year, ProSlide was also awarded First Place: Leading Edge award by the World Waterpark Association.

Funfields’ John Verga comments “Funfields wants to give our guests the best; that’s why we buy our rides exclusively from ProSlide.

“We’re extremely proud to work with the Funfields team. We really feel a part of that family. I think it’s just the beginning of a long, very successful relationship.”

While Funfields Theme Park will re-open for the season on 29th September, Gravity Wave will debut in October.
