Fremantle Dockers name new Chief Executive

The Fremantle Dockers have appointed former Sydney and Western Bulldogs midfielder Simon Garlick as their new Chief Executive.

Garlick, who played 137 games for the Bulldogs and 44 for Sydney between 1994 to 2004, takes over from the sacked Steve Rosich.

Garlick was the Chief Executive of the Bulldogs between 2010 and 2015, and more recently was chief executive of Bastion EBA, an independent marketing, communications and commercial agency.

As reported by AFL.com.au, the 44-year-old said he was honoured to be given the job at Fremantle, stating “this club has so much potential.

"While the Fremantle Football Club has a relatively short history in the AFL, the region is one of the richest football areas in Australia and the club's supporter base is as significant as it is passionate.

"The foundations have been laid by some great football people, and not just with regard to the history of the club. Fremantle play in a world class venue at Optus Stadium and the facilities at Cockburn are outstanding.

"My background and experience has helped me see and understand the importance of continuing to build a team ethos and culture, which will help deliver sustained success."

Garlick's commercial background was pivotal in him securing the role, and he is eager to re-engage Dockers members and fans after a turbulent season.

Fremantle recorded the AFL's biggest drop in membership in 2019, slumping 7.56% to 51,431, but President Dale Alcock believes the club can become an AFL powerhouse on and off the field.

Garlick's arrival continues a raft of coaching changes at Fremantle since the club posted their fourth straight year without a finals appearance.
