Free swimming for parents with toddlers at Upper Hutt pool

Upper Hutt’s H²O Xtream aquatic centre is continuing to offer supervising adults free entry when bringing their under-fives to the pool.

Knowing about water safety and how to swim are vital skills best learnt at an early age to gain respect and awareness of the water. H²O Xtream believes that all children should have access to an environment where they can learn these skills and set them up for life.

The benefits of introducing your child to the water at an early age can stimulate their senses to increase physical independence, self-awareness, and language development while instilling good social skills and improving confidence.

Krisna Rose, Team Leader of Aquatics at H2O Xtream explains “a child who regularly swims is less likely to panic in the water giving them a better chance in the event of an incident while also setting up the foundations for an active lifestyle in the future.”

H2O Xtream runs several programmes specifically for toddlers.

Toddler Time is a fun, relaxed, and safe atmosphere where you can introduce your child to the water, with a qualified instructor available at all times. Toddler Time runs Tuesday and Thursday during the school term from 10am to 11 am and operates on a casual drop-in basis at no extra charge above the entry price. There are no waves or features operating during this time.

Xtream Toddler Time is a special event run during the school holidays where the whole facility is available for toddlers.

H2O Xtream’s Wavebreakers Swim School also offers swimming lessons for toddlers during term time.

The price of entry to H2O Xtream for children under one year old is $2, and for children under five years old, the price is $3.10. Adults supervising these children get free entry.
