$1.5 million aquatic play facility to be installed at Sutherland Leisure Centre
A new $1.5 million water fun park to be installed at the Sutherland Leisure Centre is expected to be ready by next summer.
Sutherland Shire Council has awarded a tender to Queensland based company Beau Corp Projects for the design and construction of the facility.
Describing the aquatic play area as “an exciting space for the whole family to enjoy”, the water fun park will have a wide range of dynamic water features, including safe slides, water fountains and play equipment to suit children of all ages and abilities and will also feature integrated shade structures and seating.
The new facility will be supervised by lifeguards during operating hours and with no water over 30 centimetres in depth it makes it the perfect place for parents to relax as they observe their kids having fun in a safe space.
Spanning 500 metre² it will be built on an existing grass area in the north-western corner of the Leisure Centre and will operate during the warmer months of the year (anticipated as being from September to April)
Sutherland Shire Mayor, Carmelo Pesce explained “Sutherland Leisure Centres Water Fun Park is set to become the number one attraction for family fun and for keeping the kids entertained.
“We know how much our community love the outdoors and this vibrant new facility will tick all the boxes.
“It will provide a safe and exciting new space to spend your weekends, school holidays or even for hosting birthday parties.”
Access to the new feature will be included in the Leisure Centre’s standard entry fee, with a discounted rate for families of as little as $25.50.
The project will be self-funded meaning it is projected to generate income in excess of expenses inclusive of funding and operational costs.
Additional revenue from the water fun park will also help offset rising energy costs associated with running Sutherland Leisure Centre.
