Free Qantas seminar to explain carbon price system
With Australia's carbon price system coming into effect on 1st July, Qantas is to host a seminar explaining its implications for the tourism industry.
The event will be held at the Sebel Cairns on Friday 2nd March, ahead of the 2012 National Tourism Awards the Qantas Sustainable Tourism Summit.
With Australia's carbon price system coming into effect on 1st July, there is a sense of urgency around the need for tourism businesses to operate more sustainably. Many companies in the sector are already well-advanced on green investments and initiatives ï¾ but the introduction of a price signal will add further incentives for change.
Australia's unique policy approach presents an opportunity for the tourism industry. By combining sustainable operations with effective marketing, Australia can become a truly low-carbon destination. However, as ever in tourism, a coordinated approach will be essential to deliver the best results.
The summit will bring together policymakers, business leaders, non government organisations and marketers to discuss the issue of tourism sustainability in a carbon-constrained economy. It aims to identify best practice from Australian and overseas and establish how Australia can use its environmental credentials as a competitive advantage in the global tourism economy.
Speakers secured so far include Dermont O'Gorman (Chief Executive, World Wildlife Fund Australia), Bruce McKenzie (Chief Operating Officer, Australasia, InterContinental Hotels Group), Andrew McEvoy (Managing Director, Tourism Australia) and Todd Sampson (Chief Executive, Leo Burnett Sydney).
Qantas looks forward to welcoming its tourism partners to Cairns to address one of the most pressing challenges facing the industry.
An RSVP is essential to attend this complimentary event.
