Free outdoor concert returns to Christchurch’s North Hagley Park
The free 2025 Mitre10 Sparks outdoor concert is returning to North Hagley Park on Saturday 8th February, showcasing the talents of Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and a host of musical guests. The evening will be capped off with a massive fireworks display.
Christchurch City Council Manager of Events and Arts Lucy Blackmore says Mitre10 Sparks is the most popular event in the Council’s calendar, attracting up to 20,000 people year after year.
Blackmore notes “the collaboration between Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and Christchurch City Council always creates a diverse, fun and lively programme that keeps people coming back.
“This year’s theme is ‘Ōtautahi strong’ and showcases our local talent.”
The orchestra will be joined by a range of guest singers including Marley Sola – fresh from a stint on The Voice Australia - and a rising star on the local opera scene Millie Trusttum.
Original compositions created by CSO Artist in Residence Mahina-Ina Kingi-Kaui incorporating taonga puoro (Māori traditional instruments) will also be performed.
Blackmore added “the mix of jazz and pop songs, operatic arias, and full orchestral pieces will keep the whole family entertained.’
The event starts at 7.30pm, when CSO takes the stage, and wraps up around 9.40pm, with a huge fireworks display set to music.
