Four people suffering bacterial illness linked to Ekka
Queensland Health says a cluster of E.coli cases at this year's Brisbane Ekka were probably linked to the animal nursery.
Four people who visited the Royal Queensland Show are being treated, but have not been hospitalised.
Dr Jeannette Young says one 33-year-old woman and three children aged 13, 11 and six are being treated for the infection after visiting the nursery on Animal Boulevard.
Dr Young says a cluster of infections is unusual and anyone showing symptoms, including diarrhoea, after visiting the Ekka should see a doctor.
She says in rare cases the infection can develop into the blood disease haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), which can be fatal for children under five.
The Ekka runs for 10 days every August and finished on Saturday 17th August.
