Flowerdale community to benefit from new female friendly change rooms

Flowerdale sporting clubs today welcomed the official opening of new female friendly change rooms at Spring Valley Recreation Reserve to host more events thanks to funding from the Victorian Government.

Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Danielle Green officially opened the new pavilion made possible with a $165,920 grant from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

Home to the Flowerdale Sports Club, the change rooms were outdated and in desperate need of an upgrade to bring them up to modern and appropriate standards.

The new female friendly change rooms are now more accessible and provide a safer and more user-friendly environment for the close to 250 tennis, cricket and bowls players who depend on the reserve, especially women and girls.

The Victorian Government has invested more than $850 million in community sport and recreation facilities across Victoria since 2014, providing better health, wellbeing, social and economic outcomes for Victorian communities.

This investment also includes the new $22 million Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, part of a new suite of community infrastructure investment programs that are now open including the World Game Facilities Fund, Community Cricket Program and Community Sports Infrastructure Loans Scheme.

The Victorian Government also acknowledged the Murrindindi Shire Council, Flowerdale Sports Club and Marysville Triangle Community Foundation for their financial contribution and commitment to deliver the project.

Commenting on the new facility, Parliamentary Secretary Green advised “local clubs like Flowerdale Sports Club are the heart and soul of the community and they deserve modern, female friendly facilities they can be proud of.

“This is such a fantastic announcement for the entire Flowerdale community - it’s not just the clubs that benefit, with nearby schools and community groups also able to access the new facility.

“The new change room upgrades will go a long way towards encouraging people of all walks of life regardless of age, ability and gender to get active and healthy and join in all the fun at Spring Valley Recreation Reserve.”
