Flow Athletic maintains online engagement with members through Coronavirus shutdown

With fitness facilities and studios closed due to Coronavirus restrictions, Flow Athletic have been maintaining their strong and united member community, keeping members connected with streaming classes, online engagement with personal trainers and dietary advice.

Mindful of the current uncertainty for the wider population as well as gyms and their staff, Flow Athletic founder and Director, Ben Lucas advises “originally we started filming classes so people can watch them on demand, but then we realised that people want to stay connected. When you are in isolation it is important to be as social as possible for your mental health, and also as a boredom buster.

"We have created 4 x channels on Facebook, one for Strength, one for yoga, one for spin and one for Pilates. We even loaned out our spin bikes to members so they can still keep their classes up from home, and I do think that has been a game changer for us.

"We are live streaming over 60 classes a week. This allows people to engage with their trainer and the other clients in real time. They can also banter in the private group to stay social.

"Our personal training sessions are now taking place via FaceTime and because the restaurant industry has also taken a hit, I am looking to create a cooking channel where I will pay the chefs per recipe.”

With gyms and studios being places where people come to feel great and, over time, build meaningful communities, Flow Athletic has a long time commitment to building strong communities and is aware that members can now be in states of isolation without their outlet.

Lucas adds “while it is a very tough time for our industry, it is important that we keep doing what we set out to do, which is to bring health and wellness to our members and to support others in a time of crisis.”

With a positive view for the future, Lucas concludes, if you “get knocked down seven times, stand up eight."
