Floriade 2014 expected to attract 400,000 visitors to Canberra
Over 400,000 local, national and international visitors are expected to converge on Canberra over the coming month with the Floriade 2014 festival now open.
Opened on Saturday (13th September), Australia’s biggest celebration of spring will see more than one million bulbs bloom in Commonwealth Park, as the city hosts its most popular and well attended event for the 27th year.
Floriade 2014 is inspired by the theme of passion, with the 7,993 metre2 of garden beds embracing people’s love for a range of activities including fashion, video games, romance and food.
Launching Floriade 2014, renowned author and journalist Indira Naidoo stated “in a climate shifting towards higher density living, my passion for gardening in reduced space is no secret."
In addition to the beautiful flower displays, visitors to Floriade will pick up gardening tips from experts in the field, listen to inspiring musical performances, enjoy culinary demonstrations by world renowned chefs and keep the kids entertained with an exciting line up of activities including six architecturally designed cubby houses.
Floriade runs from 13th September to 12th October, with the program of events at Floriade also featuring The Living Room’s Barry Du Bois and Miguel Maestre, Wildlife Warrior Bindi Irwin and Australian singer-songwriter Bob Evans.
