First National Sports Convention Forum staged in Sydney

The first National Sports Convention Forum of the week has wrapped in Sydney, with in-person and online delegates attending the event at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

Presented as a virtual and live event, the Forum focussed on how sport and recreation providers can embrace the learnings from COVID-19, map out future strategies and organisations and plan ready for 2021 and beyond. 

Sport New Zealand’s outgoing Chief Executive, Peter Miskimmin opening comments at the NSC Forum explored how the sector can refocus and rebuild, a theme also addressed by Rob Dalton, acting Chief Executive at Sport Australia.

Dalton then joined a Panel Members include Karen Jones, Chief Executive, NSW Office of Sport; Ross Bidencope, interim Chief Executive Officer, Sport NSW and Steven Head, General Manager, Hornsby Shire Council, to explore what active communities and community sport will look like post COVID-19 for delivering physical activity, play, recreation and sport.

Commenting on the Forums, the organisers advised “2020 has been a challenging year with both bushfires destroying much community sport infrastructure followed by the global pandemic of COVID-19. With so many organisations now focussed on re-opening and preparing for the summer season, it is critical to look further ahead and plan for the future.

“This is a generational opportunity ready for us to embrace, and this year the National Sports Convention has changed from a large NSC Convention centric event to three one day NSC Forums in three cities, where we will explore the opportunities for 2021 and beyond.”

The NSC Forums have been developed with over 40 industry bodies for sport, recreation, play, education, and government following the COVID-19 pandemic, significantly recalibrating our industry and how we think, plan and execute our planning and delivery to the community.

Places are still available for tomorrow's virtual National Sports Convention Forum in Melbourne while the Brisbane Forum will be in March next year.
