Female sports players to benefit from upgrades to Hobart’s Clare Street Oval Pavilion

Hobart’s Clare Street Oval Pavilion upgrades are complete, providing improved access to sporting facilities for women and girls.

Home to the New Town White Eagles Soccer Club and used extensively across the summer by a range of cricket clubs, the facilities at the Clare Street Oval Pavilion have been officially opened.

The original amenities and change rooms were constructed in the 1970s and had become inadequate and outdated.

The redevelopment involved the construction of a sports pavilion with four change rooms, two accessible toilets, 10 lockable shower cubicles, new kiosk and two separate change rooms for umpires with separate bathrooms and showers.

The Tasmanian Government provided $450,000 to the project through the Levelling the Playing Field Grant Program, with the Hobart City Council contributing $850,000.

Tasmanian Minister for Sport and Recreation, Nic Street said the Tasmanian Government is increasing women and girls’ participation in sport and added “the redevelopment of the facilities at Clare Street Oval Pavilion provide a secure, clean, safe space for women and girls and others requiring adaptive facilities to participate in local sporting club activities.

“Participating in sport is crucial in establishing lifelong healthy habits and provides individual and social benefits, including improved physical and mental health, enhanced social skills, and the development of teamwork and leadership skills.”
