Falls Festival looks to 2020/21 editions with all Australian lineup

The producers of the Falls Festival have today advised that they are working towards staging the next Falls Festival in the December 2020 and January 2021 season and that it will feature a limited edition, all Australian lineup.

Noting that "as Australia heads towards the recovery phase of COVID-19 we have decided to move forward with optimism, and work towards presenting our Dec 2020/Jan 2021 event in a way that will best bolster Australia’s live music industry", Co-Producers Jess Ducrou and Paul Piticco advised in a communication to stakeholders that "we have some of the most exciting acts in the world and this special 'home grown' edition of Falls will ensure that money stays in our local economy, providing maximum financial benefit for the Australian music community – artists, management, crew, agents, roadies, production etc - as well as the thousands of contractors and suppliers who rely on our events for their income."

The summer Falls Festival will also raise funds for the Support Act charity which provides essential services to our music industry workers. Support Act has been inundated with requests recently from workers who have been severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Ducrou and Piticco went on to advise "health and safety is always our number one priority, so as the recovery process begins and more information becomes available, we will continue working with and taking direction from the health authorities.

"But today we’re letting you know that while we’re living in strange times, we’re choosing the bright side. Our team is moving ahead and we hope we’ll be seeing you all in December/January for an all Aussie edition of Falls Festival."

Last month, Australia’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Brendan Murphy suggested a return to large scale events like festivals would be unlikely until it was possible to be 100% sure there was no risk of the Coronavirus being spread.

Dr Murphy advised "unless you’re absolutely, completely confident about your borders, your testing, your surveillance, you can’t relax a measure of distancing.

“We certainly would not be contemplating large-scale gatherings. It’s hard for me to envisage reopening of nightclubs and big music festivals in the foreseeable future.”

The Falls Music & Arts Festival is a multi-day music festival held annually in Lorne, Victoria; Marion Bay, South Australia, Byron Bay, NSW and Fremantle, Western Australia over the New Year's Eve and January period.
