Falls Creek named Victoria's leading ski resort
Two recently completed reports by EY Sweeney commissioned by the Alpine Resorts Coordinating Council on behalf of the Victorian State Government have confirmed Falls Creek is Victoria’s leading All Seasons Alpine Resort destination.
The study was undertaken to provide a comprehensive opinion on the economic contribution of the Alpine Resorts, in both summer and winter, to the Victorian economy.
In highlighting the importance of the Alpine resorts, a very comprehensive summary of the economic, social and recreational contribution made by the resorts can be clearly demonstrated.
In addition to these elements, further insights into values relating to environmental, education and community cohesion have also been generated.
Findings from the study categorically demonstrate and directly quantify the significant relevance the Alpine resorts have to not just their local communities and surrounding municipalities, but also to their regions and the State.
The report validates Falls Creeks’ position as the leading All Seasons Alpine Resort. Using a range of metrics Falls Creek is the most significant contributor to the State economy; hosted the largest number of visitor days; whilst creating the highest number of jobs for the industry.
The economic contribution to the state as reported across the two reports defines Falls Creek’s direct and indirect economic contribution as $688 millionn. The resort accounted for 41% of all jobs attributed to or created by the sector, equating to 3,936 jobs.
In terms of visitors, Falls Creek has the highest number of visitor days spent in resort of all the Victorian alpine resorts, equal to 615,721 days. Furthermore, in terms of patronage, Falls Creek has the highest dispersion of visitors from interstate and internationally. In winter, 28% of visitors are from overseas or interstate, compared to 24% in summer.
From a visitor satisfaction perspective, Falls Creek also recorded the highest quality of experience by visitors rating the resort as “good” or “excellent” in 95% of respondents, once again the highest in the sector.
Welcoming the findings Falls Creek Resort Chief Executive Stuart Smythe stated “the reports provide tremendous insight into the significance of the Alpine resorts across a range of metrics. The relevance of the resorts to the economy, jobs, their regions and the state is undeniable. Importantly, there is also growth being experience by all the resorts and the sector as a whole.
“For Falls Creek, the survey results are recognition and reward for the great work done by stakeholders, the community and associated parties in making Falls Creek the number one Alpine resort in Victoria.”
