Expo to reveal new developments in fitness

A significant week for the Australian fitness industry is approaching with the Australian Fitness and Health Expo and the annual FILEX Convention to be staged next week.

As the largest fitness industry event in the southern hemisphere, the Expo will also unveil the hottest products and training methods including gym equipment, fitness fashion and the latest in sports nutrition.

This year the Expo will feature a Fitness Business Advice Centre supported by Fitness Australia, providing the opportunity to meet with a Business Expert for 30 minutes, free of charge, throughout the three day Expo.

Delegates will need to book in with an expert to discuss topics including professional insurance, business insurance, risk management, HR, recruitment, marketing and mentoring.

With the theme, 'Leading the way' the 2012 FILEX fitness convention will help fitness professionals and business owners lead the way for their clients, members and society at large by encouraging people to live fit, strong and vital lives.

FILEX will provide delegates with cutting-edge presenters from around the world, delivering the most up-to-date and relevant information to help professional and personal growth.

An exciting new initiative at FILEX this year is the inaugural Lifestyle & Exercise Medicine strand.

Introducing the new strand, Australian Fitness Network Executive Director Nigel Champion explains "the health and fitness challenges facing the population are greater than ever.

"Obesity and lifestyle diseases pose an increasingly serious threat to the way our society functions, with medical costs predicted to spiral out of control and potentially bankrupt the health system. All of which makes our job, and the leadership we display, more important than ever before. We hope you will gain insight, knowledge and inspiration to help combat the rise in lifestyle disease from the sessions in this strand, and in doing so, enhance the perception of the fitness industry as a serious contributor to preventative health."

The three-day fitness convention is preceeded by the FILEX Business Summit on Thursday 26th April.

Exhibiting at the Australian Fitness and Health Expo on Stand V44, the latest issue of Australasian Leisure Management includes a feature 'Fitness Trends 2012' that looks at the latest fitness business developments.

The feature covers: Boxing for fitness; the role of technology; the growth of 24/7 fitness clubs and franchises; functional training; social fitness and wellness.

Among a range of other industry trends, Australian Fitness & Health Expo organisers report that Australia's 'baby boomers' are a major driving force behind demand for fitness products and services.

Baby boomers in their retirement years now have more time to work on their fitness and many believe that being fit will enable them to better enjoy their retirement.

According to a survey by the Expo organisers, more than half of Australians want to improve their health and be fitter.

The Australian Fitness & Health Expo and FILEX are held from 27th to 29th April at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre.
