Expansion plans for Victoria's Adventure Park
A land rezoning application that could enable major future expansion of Victorian theme and water park Adventure Park has been submitted the City of Greater Geelong (COGG).
With the owners of the attraction applying for a rezoning of land adjacent to the attraction, future development might include a residential hotel, function and exhibition centres, a camping and caravan park, a bed and breakfast, group accommodation, a market and a day spa.
Located at Wallington, to the east of Geelong, Adventure Park is already Victoria's biggest theme park, and is a major tourist attraction on the Bellarine Peninsula.
Adventure Park joint General Manager Leanne Salmon told local media said none of the proposals such as a hotel or an exhibition centre were necessarily going to happen, and the business would have to continue to grow for any of it to happen.
Salmon stated "we have acquired two adjoining properties in the past five years and it's basically a need to bring all that under the one footprint in terms of having it all coloured the same on the COGG map.
"It's an overdue zoning change by us to reflect what the existing land use is.
"It also incorporates a long-term traffic management plan, and that was something we wanted to start looking at in the future if we are lucky enough to continue growing."
Adventure Park operates between October and April each year, with the busiest times being on warm summer days at weekends and in holiday periods.
Salmon said there was no development involved with the current amendment, it was just a rezoning, and any development could be 10 or 20 years down the track.
She concluded "it's a long-term dream ahead for us. It's a rezoning at this point and there's no development with it."
