Entertainment Technology New Zealand backs global #WeMakeEvents campaign
Venues across New Zealand will be lit up red from 8 to 11pm this Wednesday (30th September) as part of the global #WeMakeEvents campaign, acknowledging the hundreds of thousands of people who work tirelessly behind the scenes in what organisers say “is now a decimated events sector”.
Highlighting the impact of the Coronavirus on what it sees as a “hidden industry”, Entertainment Technology New Zealand (ETNZ) is promoting the event with the support of hundreds of venues across the country, including Auckland’s Sky Tower.
In a statement, ETNZ advises “production teams, designers, stage crews, venue staff, infrastructure staff, cleaning, distribution, manufacturing and logistics - it’s a vast supply chain, and one which is rarely recognised.
“Yet, this hidden industry makes live events happen for millions of people across Aotearoa every year … from grassroots gigs, concerts, festivals, and theatre shows, all the way up to the opening ceremonies of major events, often when the eyes of the world are on our country.
"They make music, magic and memories happen (creating) millions of memories with millions of stories, stories that are told and retold to friends and families around the world.”
The #WeMakeEvents night of action will start in New Zealand at 8pm on Wednesday when venues big and small will be lit red across the country.
Australia will follow, then events professionals from thousands of cities in more than 25 countries across the world will stand as one and light their venues red, at 8pm on 30th September in each of their own relevant time zones.
Further explaining the motives for the event, the organisers add “we do this to raise awareness for our hidden industry, desperately in need of support to secure its future.
“Every day we are losing more and more people and businesses to other industries, and many of them will be unable to return when this pandemic passes.”
