Enlighten ready to transform Canberra landmarks
The countdown to Enlighten 2016 has commenced, with Canberra’s stunning celebration of culture and creativity launched at a recent event at the National Gallery of Australia’s Contemporary Art Space.
Enlighten 2016, which runs from 4th to 12th March, will see the nation’s capital come alive after dark, as the festival delivers another program of exciting events and surprising experiences, including two exclusive Australian firsts.
Illuminating Canberra for its sixth year, Enlighten will transform the Parliamentary Triangle into a hive of activity, featuring the return of the Enlighten Night Noodle Markets, a range of free entertainment and stunning architectural projections that will light up six of Australia’s most iconic buildings.
Australian Parliament House, National Portrait Gallery, National Library of Australia, Museum of Australian Democracy, National Gallery of Australia and Questacon will all display projections on their walls, while also offering a unique opportunity to explore inside their buildings after dark.
Enlighten Creative Director Nicole Warren said visitors could expect a wide range of variety from the 2016 program, stating “the creativity and diverse offering of our program in 2016 will be a highlight.
“From seven metre tall inflatable white rabbits glowing in the dark, to a performance from Australian favourite Augie March to Questacon’s ‘Whisky business’ exploration of the science behind creating whisky, Enlighten 2016 truly offers something for everyone.”
Also speaking at the launch, ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr said that this year’s event is guaranteed to excite, surprise and thrill visitors to the nation’s capital.
Chief Minister Barr stated “we have a fantastic program of events in place for crowds this year, with roving performers, live music and the Enlighten Night Noodle Markets offering a feast for the senses and enticing visitors to explore, listen, eat and play.
“An exclusive Australian-first performance from the United States headlines what will be a world-class lighting, music and entertainment spectacular.”
