Emma McKeon joins the Swim Australia team

Mixing a gruelling 24-hour, weekly regime of swimming and strength training, rising swimming star Emma McKeon has just embarked on a part-time executive position with Swim Australia.

Welcoming her arrival, Swim Australia Chief Executive Ross Gage explains “we are so excited to have Emma join our team.

“Emma’s experience in the pool, will be a wonderful asset to our already stellar staff (and she) will be helping us with our daily business dealings ... contributing to one of our special interest groups, SwimDISABILITY.”

McKeon is the daughter to swimming legends Ron McKeon and Susie (Woodhouse), owners of Wollongong's McKeon’s Swim School.

Originally from the Illawarra - and training under her father - Emma recently relocated to Queenslad with her brother and fellow swimmer, David.

Residing in Upper Mt Gravatt, and training under Vince Raleigh at the Sleeman Sports Complex (Chandler), McKeon says she’s excited to be utilising her passion for swimming, combined with the skills she’s set to learn with her public health degree.

She explains “swimming has been such a massive part of my life – I feel so fortunate to be able to extend myself, and learn about the crucial business that goes on, and supports the sport I love.

“Having the platform to explore my interests and new found skills in the swim disability arena, will also be such a wonderful opportunity."

After a hugely successful 2014 Australian Swimming Trials in Brisbane – winning the 200 metre free, third in 100 metre freestyle, and thirrd in the 100 metre butterfly - Emma recently qualified to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and the Pan Pacific Games on the Gold Coast.

To date, she has won two silver medals for her part in the 4x100 metre and 4x200 metre freestyle relays at the 2013 FINA World Championships.

Swim Australia is the leading national body, in the teaching of learn to swim, and water safety, with a family of over 600 registered swim schools across Australia.
