Earth Sanctuary tourist attraction hosts Dark Skies Festival

Taking place in Alice Springs at the Earth Sanctuary tourist attraction, the Dark Skies Festival from 25th-29th May 2022 includes a variety of experiences to take star gazing to the next level.

As well as the chance to learn about astronomy, look through Deep Sky Telescopes and enjoy live performances, there is also an Under the Stars Dining experience, Bush Tucker Canapés with expert Rayleen Brown from Kungkas Can Cook, and the chance to sleep under the stars at the Sunset to Sunrise Sleep Over.

There will also be presentations on the Sun, Moon, Southern Cross, Orion, Pleiades and the Magellanic Clouds.

Dark Skies Festival Co-Director Dan Falzon advises “we see the Milky Way in Central Australia as being our version of the Great Barrier Reef – it’s just in the sky rather than on the coast.

“The Milky Way galaxy is ever-changing, and visitors of the Dark Skies Festival will get to celebrate and soak in its wonder each night, their experience enhanced by an exclusively curated audio and visual experience.

“Earth Sanctuary is proud our Central Australian backyard is something that is celebrated and sought after all over the world, a pride we hope locals can take ownership of and enjoy with us over the course of Dark Skies Festival.”

Northern Territory Minster for Major Events, Paul Kirby enthused “without doubt, the Red Centre boasts some pretty spectacular night skies. Dark Skies Festival is a unique opportunity to learn more about those skies and stars, and enjoy exclusive experiences with friends and family.”

Dark Skies Festival is supported by the Northern Territory Government through the Northern Territory Major Events Company Event Funding Program.
