Dubbo region to launch new multi attraction ticket

The Great Big Adventure Pass, a multi attraction ticket will soon be available for purchase by visitors to the Dubbo region of western NSW.

The pass, in development and planning for the past 18 months, will be available for purchase online from September 2019 and allow access to four attractions – Taronga Western Plains Zoo, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Dubbo), Old Dubbo Gaol and the Wellington Caves.

The multi attraction Great Big Adventure Pass will include a special rate at each participating attraction and offer additional discounts at participating businesses.

Great Big Adventure Pass spokesperson, Taronga Western Plains Zoo Director Steve Hinks, is excited about what this initiative will mean for tourism in the Dubbo region.

Hinks explains “the Great Big Adventure Pass is the result of a genuine collaboration between three organisations – Taronga Western Plains Zoo, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Dubbo Regional Council – working together to jointly promote our region.

“It’s the first collaboration of this type for our region, with a pass available online, between multiple tourism operators working with the shared intention of not only increasing visitation to the region, but also increasing length of stay within the region.”

The average length of stay for the Dubbo Local Government Area (LGA) is 2.2 nights (five-year average to December 2018). Tourism generates an estimated $307.663 million for the Dubbo region annually and employs 1603 people.

Hinks added: “Tourism is a major contributor to the regional economy and there is so much potential for this contribution to grow. We currently have unprecedented investment in the region’s tourism assets, including the major development of the Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Experience, $50million Zoo redevelopment and significant investment in the Old Dubbo Gaol and Wellington Caves.

“There’s no better time for the region’s four major attractions to collaborate to draw more visitors to our region, for the benefit of the visitor economy.”

Hinks advised the Great Big Adventure Pass would hold great appeal to the region’s core market of families, adding “Dubbo has long positioned itself as an adventure playground for families. We want to make it the adventure playground for families through both our tourism offerings and supportive collaborative marketing. The pass, making four attractions very accessible to the family market, further cements that positioning.”

The Great Big Adventure Pass will support the wider regional tourism industry through Dubbo Regional Council’s Destination Partnership Program, where affiliate Great Big Adventure Partners will be supported through collaborative marketing opportunities underpinned by the Dubbo Region Visitor Guide and the new Dubbo Region website.
