Dubai Aquarium welcomes monster Aussie crocodile

The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo has unveiled its newest addition ‘King Croc’ - one of the world’s largest reptiles.

Imported from Australia, King Croc and his female companion of 20 years now reside in a special enclosure at the Underwater Zoo, an exhibit that replicates the natural habitat of the saltwater crocodile.

At over 5 metres long and weighing more than 750 kilograms, equivalent to the weight of over 15 fully-grown men, King Croc is 40 years old and has the potential to grow even bigger in the next 50 years of his expected lifespan.

Every aspect of King Croc makes him a truly unique addition to Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo. His bite force is estimated to be about 3,700 pounds per square inch – the highest bite force of any animal. His head alone weighs over 150 kilograms and each of his 60 teeth are the size of an average index finger.

King Croc comes to Dubai from the Koorana Crocodile Farm at Cooranga in Central Queensland, where, known as ‘Jock the Croc’, he has been residing since 1996. The transfer to Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo was facilitated in partnership with the Australian Government authorities, after a careful review on the quality of the display, qualifications of staff caring for the animals, the educational purpose of the exhibit and the integrity of the business.

Located in the Dubai Mall, the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo features one of the world's largest acrylic viewing panel. It was developed and is operated by Oceanis Australia Group.
