Dreamworld opens new indigenous and wildlife experience on the Gold Coast

Chronicling 50,000 years of indigenous living history, Australia's first dedicated indigenous theme park attraction has opened at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.

Offering visitors a unique insight Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, the Dreamworld Corroboree is a new indigenous and wildlife experience developed by community locals and provides access to hundreds of native animals sharing Aboriginal culture with visitors through stories, dance, song, art and wildlife.

Live wildlife exhibits ranging from kangaroos, koalas and crocodiles to Tasmanian devils and tree kangaroos are on show in the attraction, interpreted through an indigenous lens to highlight their relevance to Aboriginal culture.

Developed by visitor experience company Earthstory, the interactive experience covers subjects such as totem culture and sacred creation, as well as the challenging issue of European colonisation.

Opened at the Ardent Leisure-owned Dreamworld on 12th December 2013, the project's creators collaborated intensively with cultural experts to ensure accurate portrayals of the subject matter.

Welcoming the attraction after seven years of planning, Dreamworld Chief Executive Craig Davidson explains "it's about how we get this immersion and interpretation and connection through stories, and we've got that in a unique park environment.

"I think the fact that we have ... over one and a half million guests coming to Dreamworld every year means that we have great exposure for our guests to come through and understand and learn a lot more about Indigenous culture."
