Dreamworld launches themed laser tag arena

One of Australia's largest laser tag arenas has opened at Dreamworld theme park on the Gold Coast. Themed on the sci-fi film franchise Alien vs Predator (AVPX), the 650 metre2, $2.5 million sci-fi attraction was created by Sudden Impact.

The goal for players is to either travel through or around the temple while trying to stay 'alive' and score the most points. Queen Alien Labyrinth is positioned in the centre of the arena shooting laser beam in all directions - harming any players in the line of fire.

Dreamworld Chief Executive Noel Dempsey explained, "it's the biggest battle playground ever seen in Australia (and) it's an outstanding adrenalin-filled attraction for us.

"This becomes part of a new precinct here at Dreamworld, where we are going to have a range of adrenalin-filled actives, from the V8 simulators, to Flowrider and now today opening the biggest and the best, which is Alien vs. Predator."

Sudden Impact's famous Lynton V. Harris is known for creating amazing interactive attractions based on blockbuster movies, and Dreamworld's latest creation from Sudden Impact is no exception.

As Harris explained, "AVPX is the next generation of laser combat set in one of the biggest laser arena in Australia. Dreamworld has evolved the concept from a 'shoot and glow' approach to an intuitive struggle against a primordial threat to the human species."

The old Vortex building has been redeveloped and extended for this attraction, with the Vortex ride believed to be on its way to the theme park's Nick Central area.
