Dreamworld and WhiteWater World to reopen on Saturday 10th December
Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld and its sister attraction WhiteWater World are to reopen on Saturday 10th December.
Dreamworld Chief Executive Craig Davidson made the announcement of the reopening today, advising that that every single attraction opening on 10th December will have passed an unprecedented multi-level safety review, encompassing Workplace Health and Safety Queensland’s audit, Dreamworld’s internal engineering review, Pitt & Sherry’s independent review and the external peer-review by UK based theme park safety specialists, LTC.
Davidson explained “every ride and slide open on 10th December will have passed this rigorously conducted, multi-level safety review.”
Following remediation and close out by inspectors, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland have lifted all prohibition and improvement notices previously issued to the theme park.
The reopening announcement follows a period of massive uncertainty about the future of the theme park following the deaths of four people on its Thunder River Rapids ride in late October.
The reopening will see a special ‘Open Hearts – Open Doors’ Charity Weekend on 10th and 11th December during which $25 from every guest entry fee will be donated to the Red Cross – with Dreamworld also contributing a $25 donation on behalf of all pre-paid ticket and passholders.
Davidson advised “these funds will be distributed to those affected by the tragedy through the GIVIT Appeal Independent Distribution Committee.”
Attractions to be open at Dreamworld include the new Tiger Island exhibit, the Corroboree indigenous precinct, wildlife areas, entertainment and family attractions in the DreamWorks Experience, Wiggles World, ABCKids World and select Motorsports precinct attractions.
Davidson added “other rides will open progressively as they are signed off by the safety review process.
“The Dreamworld website will provide regular updates for guests to find out which attractions are open to the public and when those yet to open, will do so. A special summer ticket price will be in place.”
