Des Penman Memorial Reserve $1.45 million refurbishment officially opens

The Des Penman Memorial Reserve $1.45 million refurbishment in the Perth suburb of Nollamara, a has officially opened with Improvements including the construction of four unisex change rooms and clubroom updates.

The reserve, located on Lemana Road, is home to the Nollamara Cricket Club and the Nollamara Football Club.

The project included the provision of four unisex change rooms which will improve capacity for men's and women's teams to use the facility at the same time.

The upgraded facilities will also accommodate the growing use of the facility by club members, and foster participation in football and cricket by girls and women who did not have access to adequate change room facilities prior to these upgrades.

The Western Australian Government contributed $400,000 to the upgrade through its Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

Other sources of funding for the project included $550,000 from the City of Stirling and $500,000 from the Federal Government.

Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray advised "as a Sport and Recreation Minister, there are few more rewarding experiences for me than opening a purpose built sporting facility that will benefit a local community, especially when it provides unisex change rooms that ensure all players have access to appropriate facilities.

"Having visited the clubrooms at the invitation of the club and the local member a few years ago, I am well aware of just how desperately needed these upgrades were.

"I know these new facilities will be widely used and will better serve the growing number of Nollamara cricket and footy players, while also cementing the venue's status as a hub for the local community."
