Demolition pending but SCEC wins new accolade
During a year of industry awards, the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre has been honoured once more with the Best Venue prize in the Australian Event Awards.
Presented at the end of last week, the award confirms the Centre's place as Australia's top facility for events and exhibitions having been judged by an independent industry panel.
SCEC Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen said the award provided timely recognition for the venue's ongoing improvements and innovation at it approached its 25th anniversary next year.
He explained "we've been setting new standards in Australia's event industry for almost 25 years and we have no intention of resting on our laurels.
"As we head towards our silver anniversary in 2013 we plan to make sure each event we host is among the best Sydney has experienced."
The Centre's winning submission highlighted a series of its most recent innovations, including ongoing improvements to the venue and visitor experience, best practice management, sustainability and corporate social responsibility programs and a leadership role in fostering the wider event industry.
The Australian Event Awards are part of the two-day Australian Event Symposium held at the SCEC, bringing together leading minds from across the Australian business events Industry.
The Centre's Best Venue award follows a record year for industry honours in 2012/13, during which it received 14 major awards across a wide range of areas from management and technical services to environmental initiatives and creative food and beverage.
