Deakin University study into the health benefits of parks
With the support of Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA), researchers at Deakin University are to undertake a study into the health benefits and associated economic value of parks and park use in Australia.
With the aim of quantifying the health and wellbeing benefits attained from participation in parks and open spaces and the economic value assigned to parks and open spaces by users and the Australian population, the study aims to highlight potential long-term financial savings for the health as a result of proactive park-oriented facilities and programs.
Via short face-to-face interviews, the researchers seek views on the value of parks and open spaces from stakeholders including national parks, council parks, linear parks, reserves (including sporting grounds) and unstructured play areas across Victoria.
Professionals managing any of the above park types (in Victoria) and who are interested in being considered as one of the case study sites, along with those who would like more information, are invited to contact Penny Davidson of Deakin University at email:plaadvisory@parksleisure.com.au by 24th April.
