David Thompson to leave Gumbuya World

Having led the operations at new Victorian attraction Gumbuya World in the lead up to, and since its, opening at the end of last year, Chief Executive David Thompson has advised that he is to leave the business.

Thompson, a former member of the Board of the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association (AALARA) and General Manager of Sunshine Coast amusement park Aussie World from 2000 to 2015, initially consulted to the Gumbuya World development before being appointed Chief Executive in November last year.

Sited near Pakenham in Melbourne’s fast-growing south eastern suburbs, Gumbuya World, the former Gumbuya Park, underwent a $50 million redevelopment, transforming the 35-year-old wildlife park into a multi-zoned Australiana themed family tourist attraction.

With over 20 years of experience in the Australian attractions industry, Thompson commented on LinkedIn “I have decided to advance my career and seek further challenges within the theme park industry (and) am open to all opportunities, contractual or full time.

“I wish the brilliant team here at Gumbuya World all the very best success.”
