Darwin hosts series of community dog walks to promote healthy lifestyle

City of Darwin has partnered with the Heart Foundation to run a series of community dog walks -‘Walk ‘N Wag’ - aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and helping dog owners socialise their animals.

Each Walk ‘N Wag event will be held at a different location, giving dog owners an opportunity to try walks they have never done before.

Walk locations in the first Walk ‘N Wag series include The Esplanade, Mindil Beach, Vesteys Beach, Nightcliff Foreshore and Cullen Bay.  Planning for the second series is already underway with The Botanic Gardens, Lee Point Beach, Rapid Creek, Sunset Beach, Holmes Jungle, Casuarina Beach and the Mangrove Boardwalk likely to feature.

City of Darwin Animal Education Officers will be on hand to provide dog owners with advice and support on a range of pet management issues.

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis supports the initiative advising “these easy walks, organised by City of Darwin and the Heart Foundation, give dog owners a great opportunity to discover new walks across our city and get some great tips on how to educate their pets.

“The walks are also a great opportunity for pet owners and dogs alike to meet and make new friends.

“City of Darwin is committed to promoting a healthy lifestyles and we invest significant funds into maintaining and creating new walkways across our municipality for everyone to enjoy.”

The Walk ‘N Wag events will initially be held every second Tuesday afternoon from 13th October to 8th December, with each walk for approximately 45 minutes, meeting at 5.15pm and starting at 5.30pm.
