Coronavirus Update: Crown Casino, Fitness Australia, LIWA Aquatics and gyms and theatres closed in the UK - 22nd March

Crown Resorts will close the main gaming floor at its Melbourne casino after it was stripped of its controversial exemption from social-distancing rules aimed at arresting the advance of Coronavirus.

Fitness Australia has launched ‘Keep on Moving’, a community awareness campaign to highlight the importance of keeping active and continuing a regular exercise routine.

The campaign emphasises the vital role fitness and regular moderate activity has on mental health and overall wellbeing, which, Fitness Australia says "is why continuing to be active during these worrying times can help with isolation, stress, anxiety and help support a person’s immune system". Philip Island Nature Parks Board has advised that, effective from Monday 23rd March, it will temporarily close the Penguin Parade, Koala Conservation Reserve and Churchill Island.

Hotels across Sydney and Melbourne are facing closure with the sector calling on the Federal Government for a $900 million relief package to help save over 300,000 jobs as the impact of fears over Coronavirus spreads.

Due to the Coronavirus epidemic and the closures of some facilities, LIWA Aquatics is conducting a survey to establish the current state of the aquatics sector and to work out what areas of assistance it can provide as peak body, For details go to www.liwaaquatics.org.au/news/pool-closure-survey

As of Friday 20th March, all aquatic and recreation centres, gyms, theatres, pubs, restaurants and nightclubs in the United Kingdom have been ordered to close. No date for their reopening has been set, with closures to be subject to ongoing review.
