Corangamite Shire Council offers free youth pool lifeguard training
Corangamite Shire Council, located in Victoria's southwest, has advised it is offering free lifeguard training for Shire residents aged 12-24 during the September school holidays.
The course will equip candidates with the skills and knowledge required to supervise swimming pool users. It covers pool surveillance, scanning techniques, rescue skills, oxygen resuscitation and emergency care.
Council notes “Lifeguard training is a fun and active way for young people to build confidence and leadership skills. It opens up great part-time or casual job opportunities, especially during school holidays and summer.”
Coordinator Community Development and Engagement Bec Reedman advised “the Pool Lifeguard Training Course is at Cobden Health Indoor Pool on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th September.
“Being a lifeguard teaches vital first aid and aquatic CPR skills that can save lives.
“It’s a fantastic way to stay fit and improve swimming ability in a structured environment.
“Lifeguards play a key role in keeping pools and beaches safe, which is especially important in Australia’s water-loving culture.
“Having lifeguard certification looks impressive on a resume and can lead to other roles in aquatic or emergency services.
“Most importantly, it empowers young people to make a real difference in their community.”
Prospective participants must have the First Aid/CPR HLTAID003 or HLTAID011 certificate before they can register for this course.
There are only 20 places available. Book now at events.humanitix.com/lifeguard-training-2025.”
