Corangamite Shire Sports and Recreation Coordinator Jane Hinds said term two timetables had started at each of the indoor sport arenas, stating “we have badminton, Rock Up Netball, junior netball and soccer at Camperdown stadium.
“Basketball, squash, badminton and netball are running at Timboon stadium.
Advising that it had been a tough year for some community sport clubs, noting “I know the Badminton Association in Camperdown is giving it another go after being in hiatus for the last two years.
“They are looking at starting a competition in early May.”
Camperdown Badminton Association’s Lyn McLean said the club had a ‘Come and Try’ night on Monday and will hold another session on the evening of Monday 3rd May at the Camperdown Stadium.
McLean advised “we’ve had a couple of people ask, so we have decided to give it a try.”
Needing more players to start a weekly competition, McLean added “a few turned up to the first Come and Try session which was great, but we need some more to be able to start a competition.”
McLean, who has played badminton for more than 60 years, said it offers a great alternative to mainstream sports, going on to say “it’s a low-impact, positive game that requires a bit of skill. It’s indoors, great exercise and I like the friendship.
“Over the years we’ve had players that have never played before, so anyone wanting to give badminton a go in Camperdown is most welcome.”
