Convention Centre for Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast's new council has been urged to make the long-awaited arts and convention centre a priority to ensure the region's job sustainability.
Fiona Simpson, Queensland's Deputy Opposition Leader recently stated "there is an exciting opportunity for all tiers of government and the united new council to back this much needed project. It's time has well and truly come."
Former Maroochy Shire Mayor and current Sunshine Coast mayoral candidate Joe Natoli has promised to fast-track a proposed $20 million redevelopment of the Caloundra Events Centre, as well as establish a convention centre in Maroochydore.
At the last election, Labor pledged almost $20 million for a new Sunshine Coast entertainment centre and Kawana's Quad Park sports stadium.
Simpson added that "the Sunshine Coast needs a more diversified jobs base and such a facility when it is well run aids that. I think that an alliance of Sunshine Coast leaders across the three tiers of government and with the community will make this happen."
