Contract awarded to draft Marrara Sports Masterplan
The Northern Territory Government has awarded local consultant Hames Sharley the $361,107 contract to draft a Marrara Sporting Precinct Masterplan – providing a roadmap for improved sporting infrastructure for Territorians, while establishing the Precinct as a significant sporting facility for the Northern Territory.
The Masterplan will take into consideration space, available land, technology, innovation and environmental sustainability, while consulting with key stakeholders throughout its development
The Marrara Sports Precinct Masterplan will include:
detailed planning for each identified stadium to cater to current and future participation requirements and support major events
considerations to address several areas including, drainage, utilities, wayfinding, shade and landscaping, outdoor active recreation, and pedestrian access
assessment of existing infrastructure and building/asset conditions to inform decisions on master planning and costing
incorporating individual sporting venues and active recreation facilities into the broader precinct
determining requirements for facilities in case of events overlapping with regular sporting activities.
The masterplan will ensure the precinct meets current and future community needs by improving the infrastructure to support more engagement with sport and recreation activities in the region for years to come.
NT Department of People, Sport and Culture CEO, Samantha Livesley noted “Sport is an important part of life for many Territorians and it’s essential that we have the right infrastructure in place to support the sporting events which bring our community together.
“The Masterplan is an opportunity to design the facilities we need to set us up for future sporting success and ensure that Marrara is regarded as a top-class precinct which attracts sporting talent and is a comfortable place for spectators to enjoy watching their teams perform.”
Quotes attributable to Department of Logistics and Infrastructure CEO, Louise McCormick
“Developing our community sporting infrastructure provides health, social and economic benefits and this Masterplan will deliver a comprehensive development plan for the Marrara Sporting Complex.”
