Construction commences on new Beijing 2022 Olympic venues
The construction of new venues and stadiums for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics has commenced.
The announcement was made by Zhang Jindong, Representative of the 19th CPC National Congress and Deputy Mayor of Beijing, during last week’s 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress.
Zhang announced “the National Speed Skating Oval for speed skating in Beijing, the National Alpine Ski Centre and National Sliding Centre in Yanqing, as well as the Nordic Centre and Biathlon Centre in Zhangjiakou are current under construction.”
In addition, the construction of infrastructure including the high-speed railway and main highway for Beijing 2022 is also progressing with plans for the project to be completed by the end of 2019.
According to Zhang, by working closely with the International Olympic Committee and seven International Sports Federations, they are also preparing the Beijing 2022 sports program and schedule, as well as the recruitment of personnel, transportation, communication, medical facilities and accommodation for the Winter Olympic Games.
Chinese President and CPC General Secretary Xi Jinping spoke about the latest preparation and organisation for the Beijing 2022 Olympics and Paralympics Winter Games (Beijing 2022) in his report to the National Congress.
