Construction begins on new aquatic centre for Lockyer Valley

Lockyer Valley locals and swimmers will soon have a brand new state of the art aquatic centre, with construction of a new 10 lane 50 metre pool facility. The new aquatic centre will also feature an amenities block, a learn-to-swim pool and a clubhouse/control room.

Queensland Minister for Recreation and Sport Steve Dickson started construction on the project, stating "this aquatic centre will be an outstanding facility and a welcome addition to the Lockyer Valley community.

"Hopefully the new facility will encourage more locals to take up swimming and spend more time being active enjoying sport and getting exercise.

"The Lockyer Valley Regional Council has overcome significant challenges including the 2011 floods, and I commend the council for remaining steadfast through all of the upheaval during the planning process.

"I believe the more sport and recreation space we can create for all communities, but especially those like this one, the better.

Minister Dickson said the Queensland Government was providing $2.5 million in funding and was keen to encourage more Queenslanders to get involved in recreation and sport activity at all levels, adding "we believe participation and success begin with a strong focus on grassroots sport and recreation."
