Coffs Coast Derby Dolls Secure Venue
The Coffs Coast Derby Dolls have been given the green light to host a full contact roller derby at the city's Sportz Central stadium this weekend.
There were concerns the high impact sport would damage the wooden courts but negotiations with the Stadium's management, that will see the skaters use redesigned and softened knee pads, have resulted in the venue being secured for Saturday's bout but also as a training venue for the newly-formed Coffs Coast Derby Dolls.
While the Coffs Coast Derby Dolls will provide an introduction for the bout, the Brisbane-based Sun State Roller Girls will provide an all-girl full contact display to showcase roller derby to the Coffs Harbour public.
The event will also feature live music, markets stalls and plenty of derby madness will keep the whole family entertained.
The bout marks the first time the Coffs Coast Derby Dolls have performed in public. With members including students, mothers and professionals, the Coffs Coast Derby Dolls train twice a week at Bellingen High School and Sportz Central, coached under the watchful eye of Sass 'n' Hyde, a seasoned derby girl.
