Climb Fit Kirrawee a community hub for climbing and fitness

After more than 20 years of operations at its climbing gym in the Sydney suburb of St Leonards, Climb Fit has opened its second site - Climb Fit Kirrawee.

Opened just before Christmas, the new indoor climbing and gymnasium centre is the first facility of its type in Sydney's Sutherland shire, an opportunity that Climb Fit Director Robbie Josephsen identified in choosing the site.

Speaking to the St George and Sutherland Leader prior to opening, Josephsen said they targeted the Shire because “it’s a big catchment that hasn’t necessarily been tapped as yet ... there are a lot of gyms, but no climbing gyms.”

Offering a 154.5 metre² bouldering wall and 861 metre² climbing wall, the new facility is not only a haven for climbers and aspiring climbers but is also a community fitness and recreation hub with a fully equipped gym offering specialised programs to improve core strength, fitness and help reduce the potential for injury.

Josephsen sees that the facility caters for a broad range of users from beginners to “serious stuff” that would challenge the most experienced adults.

Explaining the facility's market, he advised “the predominant weekday climb will be the adult who comes in after work.

“On the weekends, it will be more about families and kids birthday parties.”

Josephsen said the centre also caters for school groups, after-school activity and offers a wide range of exercise classes.

Climbing features in the facility are from market-leader Walltopia, installed by Brisbane-based ICP.

The Technogym equipped fitness space includes an expansive cardio machine range including bikes, treadmills, rowing machines and Assault bikes; an extensive array of strength equipment including and a studio space for yoga, core, circuit, strength and Pilates classes.
