Cityfit teaches a Skill for Life

The Swim School at Bathurst's Cityfit has continued to grow in the last 12 months, a reflection of the professional and consistent approach that the Cityfit team have in teaching this vital skill for life.

Commenting on the growth, Cityfit Swim School Coordinator Dana Martin explains "we understand the most important element of a swimming lesson is for a student to have confidence and a connection with their instructor.

“A child will try new things and listen to an instructor that has been consistently teaching them, and has ultimately earned their trust.

“Our teacher to student ratios are low across all age groups to ensure the children - particularly young children - are spending as much time as possible with their instructor and getting the most out of the lesson.

“We have a highly structured program, with a clear curriculum that celebrates key milestones when learning to swim.”

Cityfit encourage parents to come and watch their children’s swimming lessons.

Martin adds “for parents to see what happens in a lesson is very valuable.

“We welcome any feedback on our Swim School and understand that each student is different.”

Mindful of the still high rates of drownings of children under the age of five in Australia, Martin concludes “70% of these deaths occurred in swimming pools … the backyard pool remains one of the most dangerous water environments for our children - second only to inland waterways.

“2013/14 figures did show an improvement from the previous year and it’s great to see the swim safe message is getting through. Though just one death is heart breaking and can be avoided through cautious supervision of children around pools and teaching them to swim – it’s a skill that will save their life."
