City of Perth Visitor Service celebrates 20th anniversary

Established in December 2001 with 20 volunteers, the City of Perth iCity Visitor Service is now open seven days a week with 60 volunteers collectively contributing up to 8000 hours throughout the year.

The volunteers today play an integral role in providing much needed services, including free walking tours throughout the inner CBD and helping visitors with information from the Murray Street Mall kiosk.

As part of WA Seniors Week (7th to 14th November), a celebration was held at the Duxton Hotel to mark 20 years of service and acknowledge the dedicated contribution of the volunteers to the City of Perth, the community and visitors.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas congratulated and thanked the iCity volunteers on achieving 20 years of service noting “you not only provide information and local knowledge, you have helped reunite families, locating lost children and reported crime.

“You volunteer your time rain or shine and you are 100% committed and dedicated to delivering the service.

“You are a friendly face to thousands and are the eyes and ears of the city. On behalf of the City of Perth I thank and congratulate on your service.”

The Lord Mayor also thanked volunteers June Richards, Maxine Talbot, Gail Shaw, Beverly McGrath, Helen Williams, Sandra Pieroni and Anthony Cousins for their upcoming 20 years of service.

“This incredible group of volunteers were some of the original intake from 2001. We are thrilled that they can celebrate with us on this commemorative occasion.”
