City of Logan welcomes return of innovative Esports Cup

The 2023 Logan Esports Cup returns next month and is anticipated to attract new and experienced gamers competing on the virtual stage for the title of Logan Cup Champion and their share of a $1000 prize pool.

The 2023 Logan Esports Cup is supported by Logan City Council’s Event Attraction Program. Council previously hosted the event at Logan Metro in 2022.

The free tournament, hosted at the Logan Entertainment Centre on 26th and 27th March will feature popular games, including Super Smash Bros Ultimate, 2v2 Rocket League and Mario Kart 8 on both Xbox and Nintendo consoles.

Australian Esports League Chief Executive Darren Kwan said that they are thrilled to work with the Logan City Council to build on the success of last year’s event.

Kwan shared “the event will be a drawcard for many passionate gamers in the community and beyond, providing a platform for them to connect with like-minded people, participate in competition and showcase their talents.

“With the support of the Council, we will not only be able to better serve our communities but also promote the growth and recognition of esports for young gamers in the region. I look forward to seeing everyone there and welcome all players of all skill levels.”

School pride will be on the line for students competing in the tournament’s High School competition.

Students will go head-to-head in Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Rocket League to find out which school has the best gamers in South-East Queensland.

The event also includes an educational workshop for gamers, parents and teachers to explore the careers and opportunities available in Esports and gaming, as well as player welfare and benefits.

Mayor Darren Power said the city was looking forward to hosting another successful Logan Esports Cup and enthused “It’s great to welcome this innovative and modern event back to Logan for another year.

“Esports is rapidly growing in popularity worldwide, and it’s fantastic that we can support it by hosting events like the Logan Esports Cup.”

City Lifestyle Chair, Cr Laurie Koranski said there would be some fierce competition over the two days.

“We have a passionate community of Esports competitors in Logan,” Cr Koranski said.

“It will be exciting to see our local talent test their skills against each other in March.”
